about

Life is good was born from the depth and beauty of the Handpan community. After initially meeting in 2012 at a Handpan gathering, we both went our separate ways, continuing to immerse ourselves in the world of singing steel nearly all day, every day. When again we met, one week turned into two then three and before we knew it we had spent two months exploring the instrument together.

During this time the common refrain between us was “Life is good!”. So with two weeks before Maxime was due back in Caribbean, it became clear we should try to record some of this magic. Inspired by a Restorative Sound concert we performed at the Hostel in the Forest, we took refuge in the stillness of the Florida swamplands at our friend Brenda's yurt ("Sukavah Bodeh", the abode of Peace).

Here we were able to focus an entire week, from dawn to dusk, on being open to the music. A reliable process quickly emerged. We would improvise a song once, review the recorded footage, and refine it into a piece. At the end of the week we shared some of this music at an evening concert for our dear friend Brenda and her friends. This week was a special pocket of time we shall treasure always.

Pure improvisation is also an important part in our approach to music, and life in general. We find it provides a wonderful space to connect with the intensity of the present moment, in other words it is a precious gift to us. We included on the album 3 improvised pieces that were recorded live in the studio, and carry this kind of spontaneous magic that takes place in a communication without words. We hope you enjoy the whole journey as much as we do...
May all beings be happy.
